Wycombe Wanderers take the trip to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic Sunday looking to strengthen their position in the top two of the League One table.

Meanwhile, the home side are on an unbeaten run of their own and enter this encounter in 10th place.

We say: Charlton Athletic 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers

With both teams showing their respective resilience and quality in recent games, this should prove to be one of the games of the weekend. However, we can only support the visitors to get through, even if it is with three different goals.

Stockport County take the trip to Rotherham United on Sunday looking for the win that will keep the club in the League One playoff places.

At a time when the visitors occupy fifth place in the tableRotherham are down to 18th place and very much involved in a relegation scrap.

We say: Rotherham United 1-3 Stockport County

Given Stockport’s inconsistency in the last few weeks, it’s anyone’s guess as to which side will turn up at the New York Stadium. But given the extra firepower in their ranks, we’re backing another important win in their promotion bid.

The goal is to keep their flawless December record intact, Birmingham City will host Blackpool at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park in League One on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues were comfortable winners over the relegation-threatened Burton Albion Boxing Day while the Seasiders were victims of a late surge from Wrexham in North Wales.

We say: Birmingham City 2-1 Blackpool

Unbeaten across 10 League One home games this season, Birmingham will be very confident of ending a chaotic 2024 with maximum points on Sunday.

Blackpool arrive at the Second City just days after their heartbreaking defeat to Wrexham and we feel the Tangerines will suffer another loss before the turn of the year.

Bolton Wanderers and Lincoln City start on Sunday in search of the win that will maintain their respective positions in the top 10 League One table.

These two teams are tied on points in 10th and ninth respectively, three points out of the playoffs.

We say: Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Lincoln City

With both of these teams having lost on Boxing Day, we expect something of a low quality affair with each club knowing the importance of avoiding defeat. With that in mind, this could turn out to be a low-scoring stalemate.

Exeter City be hosted by Crawley Town on Sunday looking to record their third straight win in League One.

At a time when the home team is in 12th place in tableCrawley remain in the relegation zone thanks to three successive defeats.

We say: Exeter City 2-1 Crawley Town

Crawley have shown they are capable of troubling a certain amount of teams in this division. But with Exeter showing some of their best form of the season, we expect the home side to come through with a hard-fought win.

Huddersfield Town manager Michael Duff on 13 August 2024© Imago

Campaign hunting Huddersfield Town are set to host bottom of the table Burton Albion at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday i League One.

The Terriers have won back-to-back games ahead of this weekend and will be confident of securing another three points, while the Brewers were pipped by fellow strugglers Shrewsbury Town after they lost to top-of-the-table Birmingham City on Boxing Day.

We say: Huddersfield Town 3-0 Burton Albion

Unfortunately for the Brewers, they have not experienced the ‘new manager bounce’ and have even hit the foot of the table.

On the other hand, Huddersfield are in excellent form and while the visitors may struggle, it’s hard to envisage anything but another win for Duff’s side on Sunday.

Leyton Orient will host Cambridge United at Brisbane Road on Sunday, keen to continue their impressive run and settle in firmly League One playoff run.

Meanwhile, the visitors arrive at Brisbane Road aiming to end a winless streak and boost their chances of climbing out of the relegation zone.

We say: Leyton Orient 2-0 Cambridge United

Leyton have risen to a new level of performance recently, one that Cambridge may find insurmountable, and with the visitors currently struggling to contain opponents while conceding goals with alarming frequency, we expect a win for the home side.

High scorer Peterborough United are set to host promotion hopefuls Barnsley at Weston Homes Stadium on Sunday i League One.

The Posh come into this weekend’s clash in poor form having lost their last two matches, while the Tykes will have taken some confidence from their comeback win over rivals Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

We say: Peterborough United 1-2 Barnsley

Both sides have proven to be strong in attack and weak in defence, so it is unlikely that either side will keep a clean sheet this weekend.

However, Peterborough’s defensive record is particularly shocking and given that Barnsley have picked up most of their points away from home this season, the visitors will be confident of securing all three points on Sunday.

Shrewsbury Town got some festive cheer with success against Lincoln City on Boxing Day, and League One side are looking for back-to-back wins in Sunday’s matchweek 23 meeting with fellow strugglers Northampton Town at New Meadow.

Thursday’s 1-0 success took Gareth Ainsworth’s men off the bottom, a result they are aiming to consolidate against Kevin Nolan’s side, who suffered defeat in the former midfielder’s spell in charge at Reading, losing 4-1 on December 26.

We say: Shrewsbury Town 2-1 Northampton Town

Shrewsbury could have kept their first clean sheet in League One since August on Boxing Day, but that was unusual given the pattern of not keeping opponents at arm’s length.

Although normal service should resume in their final match of 2024, the Shrews are backed to record a marginal win at Northampton’s expense.

Harvey White celebrates scoring for Stevenage on 10 December 2024© Imago

Days after a Boxing Day humiliation by Wycombe Wanderers, Stevenage return to League One action intent on sending giants Bristol Rovers in Sunday’s game in Week 23 at Lamex Stadium.

Alex Revell’s men were powerless to withstand the attacking prowess of the second-placed side on Thursday but will be looking to get back to winning ways against a club without a win in five games, losing four in that period and under new management following the appointment of Inigo Calderon after Christmas.

We say: Stevenage 1-1 Bristol Rovers

Despite a miserable run of results in the lead-up to Sunday’s visit to Stevenage, Rovers are unbeaten in three trips to Hertfordshire and could claim a draw to extend that unbeaten run in a low-scoring tie.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson thanks fans after his side's match against Burton Albion on December 7, 2024© Imago

High-flying Wrexham are to host Wigan Athletic at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday League One.

The Red Dragons have won their last two matches and will go into this weekend’s clash expecting another three points, while Wigan are unbeaten in their last three and will feel capable of getting a positive result away from home this weekend.

We say: Wrexham 2-0 Wigan Athletic

Both sides will come into the game confident from their form, although it is hard to ignore the consistency of Wrexham’s results.

Additionally, the Red Dragons’ excellent defense may prove too strong for the Latics to break, making a win for the hosts on Sunday seem almost inevitable.
