Tornado Watch issued for the Charlotte area until 13:00: What to know

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A tornado watch has been issued for the Charlotte area until 6 p.m. 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Alexander, Caldwell, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg and Rowan counties until 6 p.m. 10:30 am.

The storm will continue to move in from the west and give us the opportunity for severe weather through the afternoon hours.

Damaging winds will be the biggest threats, but localized flooding and the potential for a few tornadoes do exist.
