Tennessee receiver Mike Matthews plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal

Tennessee wide receiver Mike Matthews plans to enter the NCAA transfer portalOn3 has learned.

Matthews was a freshman wideout for the Vols in 2024 when he saw some action in the team’s receiver rotation. He logged seven catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns during the season, playing in 10 contests.

Mike Matthews also saw some limited work returning, taking a kickoff back 32 yards.

Prior to enrolling at Tennessee, Matthews was ranked as a five-star plus prospect, checking in as the No. 26 overall in the country in the recruiting class of 2024. He also checked in as the no. 6 recipient in the class and no. 4 overall player from the state of Georgia who hails from Lilburn (GA) Parkview.

Given his stature coming out of high school, Mike Matthews will likely attract significant interest on the NCAA transfer portal.

Tennessee receiver Squirrel White to enter the portal

It looks like Mike Matthews won’t be the only standout Tennessee player entering the NCAA transfer portal in the winter window.

Tennessee wide receiver Squirrel white also intend to enter the NCAA transfer portalaccording to On3’s Pete Nakos. He has one year of eligibility left.

White played three seasons at Tennessee and had a significant role in the offense all three years. White played in 38 career games with the Volunteers and caught 131 passes for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns.

White’s best career season came in 2023, when he caught 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns.

White was slowed in 2024 by a series of injuries. He was beaten up earlier in the season, and was on the damage report through most of October, but he hasn’t missed a game this season despite the ailments. As a result, White had a career-low 381 receiving yards in 2024, on 34 catches.

White was a four-star prospect in the 2021 signing class. He played high school football at Clay-Chalkville (Al.) High School where he was no. 371 overall view in the class, according to On3 Industry Ranking.
