Soaking rain for West Michigan Sunday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Steady rain is expected across West Michigan through most of the day Sunday.

TODAY Constant rain from sunrise to sunset
LOW 36°
HIGH 44°
WIND NE 10-20 mph

TODAY Heavy rain is expected across most of West Michigan, especially between dawn and dusk. Totals could reach 1 inch in spots, especially along I-94 and I-69, though rain will be steady even northwest of there. High temperatures will reach the mid-40s.

TONIGHT As the low pressure system moves northeast into Canada, cooler air may change excess rain to snow Sunday evening. This is most likely east of US-131 where an inch or two of snow is possible. Lows will only dip into the mid-30s.

MONDAY Calm, mild conditions are expected to return, with afternoon sunshine a strong possibility. Highs will again reach the mid-40s (likely the warmest high in a while).

TUESDAY NEW YEAR’S EVENING There is a chance for a light wintry mix, especially towards I-94, although amounts and impacts appear low right now. However, the gradual cooling will be underway with highs in the upper 30s.

WEDNESDAY NEW YEAR’S DAY As colder air begins to move in, lake-effect snow showers will become possible as highs reach the mid-30s. Any snowfall is likely to be light.

LOOKING FORWARD A prolonged period of cold and (at times) snowy patterns looks quite likely through at least the first half of January, with both system snow and snow effect almost certain.
