John Heitinga odds dropped after big Liverpool news

Liverpool manager John Heitinga will increasingly be hired as the new West Brom manager according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

BetVictor had Heitinga, 41, priced at 5/2 to be Carlos Corberan’s replacement at The Hawthorns on Friday 27 December. However, the odds have been slashed in the 24 hours that have followed, with the former Ajax manager now listed as 2/1 favorite to become the new man in charge of the Baggies.

That comes after Daily Mail reported on December 28 that Heitinga, who is currently Arne Slott’s assistant at Liverpool, is the front-runner for the Albion job.

Will West Brom hire John Heitinga as their new manager?

The Mail claim the Dutchman is making a “huge impression” at Anfield and his exit from the Premier League leaders would be felt due to how popular he is with Slot and the players.

It is understood Albion want a “bright thinker” to replace Corberan after he left for Valencia on Christmas Eve and the Black Country club believe Heitinga is capable of taking them back to the Premier League.

As it stands, former Coventry manager Mark Robins (7/2) and Solihull-born Blackburn boss John Eustace (6/1) are also in the running to become the next West Brom manager.

Of course, signing Heitinga would mean the Baggies would have to pay compensation to Liverpool for signing him.

The local media have suggested that Albion would be willing to pay a fee to hire a manager who is not currently out of work. However, due to PSR and the fact that the squad needs to be strengthened in the January transfer window, there is an argument that it might be wiser to look at someone who is not tied down to a contract.

In other West Brom news, the former Manchester United striker is keen on the job.
