Spring-like weather continues as rain returns to Metro Detroit

Metro Detroit gets a taste of spring in late December.

The spring-like weather includes both above-normal temperatures and rain. After Saturday’s high of 58 degrees — several degrees shy of the record high of 64 degrees — at Detroit Metro Airport, temperatures will drop into the 40s overnight. Lows will range from the upper 30s in the Thumb to the lower 40s in Metro Detroit.

Sunday

It will be a rainy and windy start and finish on Sunday. Along with a possible rumble of thunder, the rain will lead to mudslinging on roads and pavements. Temperatures will vary from 45 to 50 degrees. Expect the milder temperatures near Detroit and the cooler temperatures along and north of the I-69 corridor. Winds will be northeast at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

The rain and wind will continue into Sunday evening with daytime rainfall totals of about an inch. There is sometimes a risk of wet snow mixing. Lows will be in the lower to mid 30s. Winds will be out of the northwest and west around 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

ONE gale clock in effect for Southern Lake Huron at 10 PM Sunday and will last until Monday evening.

Monday

Monday morning it will be mostly cloudy with some rain and showers. Otherwise, the clouds will fall during the day. Highs will be in the mid-40s. Lows will be in the lower 30s.

Tuesday

Tuesday or New Year’s Eve will bring a chance of rain with temperatures around 40 degrees. The wet weather will stick around for evening parties with the possibility of rain and snow showers. Lows will be in the lower 30s around freezing.

In New York, it will be rainy with evening temperatures in the upper 40s as spectators await the Times Square Ball Drop.

Wednesday

Wednesday, or New Year’s Day, will be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers in southeast Michigan. Highs will be in the mid-30s. Under cloudy skies, overnight temperatures will drop into the lower to mid 20s.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday will be mostly cloudy with the possibility of a few snow showers with lake effect. Temperatures will be around 30 degrees on Thursday and the mid to upper 20s on Friday.
