Trey McBride catches first TD of 2024, blocked extra point keeps Rams lead 10-6

Down 10 to start the second half, the Cardinals met little resistance on their way down the field to score a touchdown.

Trey McBride’s first receiving touchdown of the year got Arizona on the board. But a blocked extra point kept the score 10-6 midway through the third quarter.

Kyler Murray moved the chains on third-and-2 with a 14-yard pass to McBride, moving the Cardinals into Rams territory.

McBride then moved the chains again with a 7-yard reception on third-and-5.

Murray’s 12-yard scramble down to the 7 made it first-and-goal. Then after third-and-goal from the 2nd, the Rams gave up another set of downs with a defensive hold call.

On second-and-goal, McBride entered the end zone with a screen pass to the left side. It was McBride’s 98th catch of the season, which is a new NFL record for a player who catches the first touchdown of the year, according to ESPN.

But Rams outside linebacker Michael Hoecht was able to block the extra point, keeping Los Angeles’ lead at four points. Cornerback Josh Wallace picked up the block and almost had a chance to return it for a two-point play, but was tackled before he could get too far downfield.
