Emilia Perez has been riding the waves of success since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. During the awards ceremony, the film’s central female cast marked a historic victory as they all won the award for Best Actress.

Selena Gomez shared this win with her talented co-stars, Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldana and Adriana Paz.

It is the first time she is working with filmmaker Jacques Audiard, who is not new to the French film festival. He previously won the prestigious Palme d’Or for his 2015 film, Dheepan. Before that, his 2009 film, A prophet, won the jury’s main prize, while his 1996 film, A self-made hero, won the award for best screenplay. However, Emilia Perez is his first film to break ground in the American awards circuit.

In addition to Audiard being nominated for his direction and screenplay, the film has received several nominations for his impressive acting performances. Gomez has also received several nominations, the most recent being at the Golden Globes.

“Jessi had a whole story—a young American woman who lives on the border, who belongs to American culture and tries and fails to slip into Mexican culture. The character I had written in the original treatment was much harder, more cynical . She softened the character. She’s broken because she loved a man who ultimately left her. She was brought to this film.”

Selena Gomez’s Future Projects: Details Scrutinized

Selena Gomez recently starred in the fourth season of the Hulu series, Only murder in the building, and she received an Emmy nomination for her performance. Now she is starting in the fifth season of this hit comedy series which is supposed to release in 2025.

In addition to this TV project, she will reportedly star in two more films, titled Spiral shaped (directed by Petra Collins) and In the shadow of the mountain (directed by Elgin James). According to IMDb, both films are currently in the pre-production stage.
