The sequel to ‘The Batman’ has just been delayed by a whole year

Robert Pattinson’s Batman will return to the cinema a little later than expected. Black reports that Warner Bros. has delayed the film’s release date by a full year, from October 2, 2026 to October 1, 2027.

Because that film has been delayed, it leaves an opening that will be filled by Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s new film with Tom Cruise, which is still untitled. This release date will leave it in the best position to compete in awards season.

Matt Reeves who directed Batman and returning to the sequel, said the film is expected to begin shooting in 2025, so a 2027 release date would give it plenty of time for post-production and any reshoots that might be needed.

The new Iñárritu film, meanwhile, has been shrouded in secrecy throughout its production, but features a star-studded cast that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Riz Ahmed, and is reportedly about the most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove himself the savior of mankind before the disaster he has unleashed destroys everything.”

In addition to the major changes, Warner Bros. other changes to its release schedule, including shifting the release dates of Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 to March 7 and Ryan Coollers Sinners until 18 April. These films are two of the most anticipated titles of 2025, and it is unclear what prompted the decision to change their release dates, other than the fact that Mickey 17 has been finished for a while. It is possible Sinners just needed the extra weeks to finish post-production.
