Wild scoring leader Kirill Kaprizov was injured

DALLAS – Kirill Kaprizov, the NHL’s fourth-leading scorer, will miss tonight’s Wild game against the Stars.

The 27-year-old winger, who has 50 points in 34 games and is in second place in the league with 23 goalswas sore going into the holiday break and did not travel with the team to Dallas Friday morning after speaking with doctors Thursday. He is considered day to day due to a lower body injury.

Last month, Kaprizov missed a game after a knee-on-knee hit from Edmonton’s Drake Caggiula, but Wild coach John Hynes said Kaprizov’s current issue is unrelated to the earlier injury.

During the Wild’s 4-3 win over Chicago on Monday, which snapped their season-long, four-game losing streak, Kaprizov had a goal on five shots while skating 22 minutes, 9 seconds.

“I don’t have a huge level of concern right now because he was a little beat up going into the break,” Hynes said, “but we all saw how he played against Chicago. So we’ll see what he does in day with his treatments and such, and see how he looks tomorrow.”

The Wild are also without center Joel Eriksson Ek (lower body), winger Jakub Lauko (lower body) and defenseman Jake Middleton (upper body). Hynes said Eriksson Ek will skate Friday in Minnesota and that Lauko and Middleton are making progress. After tonight, the Wild play at home Sunday against Ottawa and Tuesday against Nashville.

In Kaprizov’s absence, the Wild will elevate winger Matt Boldy to the top line along with center Marco Rossi and winger Mats Zuccarello.

Goaltender Filip Gustavsson, who returned against the Blackhawks after sitting out four games with a lower-body injury, will be back in net.
