Tracks rain and storm chances now through the weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – After a cloudy and cool Thursday, things will change a bit today. Winds will shift to the southeast, helping to pull some warmer air into the state. Most of us will reach our mid-60s easily; it will be noticeably warmer than Thursday.

A few scattered showers and/or storms will develop as the day progresses, primarily in the latter part of the day. One or two storms may bring isolated strong winds and/or some small hail, but we do not expect widespread severe weather problems on Friday.

We will be watching closely on Saturday. Unrest is expected to press upon the region. Temperatures will rise to around 70 degrees and winds will remain gusty.

See the latest live and local weather data below, streaming on WSFA Weather Now! Please note that this stream does not include live coverage of severe weather, only data on the latest weather conditions.

A FIRST ALARM as a few stronger storms will be possible during the afternoon and overnight Saturday, with the primary threats being damaging wind gusts and large hail. Tornado probability is low, but not zero.

Rain will continue through Saturday night and into Sunday morning as the system exits the region. Sunday morning we will see temperatures in the 60s with afternoon temperatures near 70.

We dry out briefly Sunday afternoon and into Monday ahead of our next system arriving on New Year’s Eve. That system will bring more rain Monday night into Tuesday.

The big story to welcome in January will be the drop in temperatures. With afternoon highs back in the 40s and 50s and overnight highs expected to be in the 20s and 30s.
