Thomas Brown on Caleb Williams: “Shooter shoots, he definitely shoots”

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams’ rookie season has seen him set franchise and NFL records. But the most disappointing stat of the year has been four total wins. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Williams was brought to Chicago to hopefully be the answer to a decades-long search for a long-term franchise quarterback.

One of the lone bright spots during Chicago’s nine-game losing streak has been the fact that Williams hasn’t thrown an interception in any of the nine straight games they’ve lost. Entering Thursday night’s Week 17 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, Williams has completed 326 pass attempts without throwing an interception, an NFL rookie record, and is not far behind Aaron Rodgers’ 402 attempts, which tops the The NFL record books.

When asked if Williams continued to tear the ball around the field, interim head coach Thomas Brown praised the young rookie, calling him a shooter who shoots and will give him the opportunity to make big plays in the passing game.

“Shooters shoot, he definitely shoots, which I appreciate, we’re going to continue to give him opportunities to shoot,” Brown said of Williams. “Being able to understand the rhythm and timing of how plays develop, but also just taking the extra effort to go through a few different plays from a practice standpoint. There’s always going to be some carryover. The more things we have time for the task with , the better performance you have.”

There have been several encouraging signs for Williams in a rookie season that hasn’t produced the team success all sides were hoping for. Seeing the talent and potential he has shown at various times this season, developing Williams and pairing him with the right coach will be crucial for the foreseeable future.
