Houston weather: Strong to severe storms possible Thursday

Thursday is a FOX 26 Storm Alert day as we could see heavy rain, lightning and even some hail and damaging winds from late Thursday morning into tonight.

What we know: The entire Houston area is at risk of seeing severe weather today.

The National Weather Service put the area at “slight risk” due to its poor weather forecast. That’s a 2 out of 5 on the NWS scale.

Severe weather means there is a potential for hail, damaging winds, more than an inch of rain and a shot at an isolated tornado.

Timeline: The day started with fog and some light rain.

Thunderstorms are expected to move in late this morning.

These storms will increase in intensity mid-day to early afternoon.

Around 4 p.m. we expect conditions to improve west of Houston, and around By 6:30 p.m., most storms should be out of Houston.

What we don’t know: The exact timing of the storms may change as they move through the area.
