‘Baby Driver’ actor dies in accident

Hudson Meek, a young actor known for portraying the child version of the title character in the hit film Baby driver and more recently, a handful of television series stars have died after falling from a moving vehicle in Alabama. He was 16.

Meek’s accident occurred Dec. 19 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, and he “sustained injuries after falling to the road from a moving vehicle,” Chief Medical Examiner Bill Yates told local news outlet AL.com. He was taken to a local hospital but died “peacefully” on Saturday, according to one obituary published on Searcy Funeral Homes website.

“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” read a post on Meek’s Instagram account. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he achieved so much and greatly influenced everyone he met.”

As a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, he was a member of the Vestavia Hills Rebel Football Team. According to the obituary, he was also passionate about his faith; The Simpsonsafter bingeing all 36 seasons of the series; his close friends; water sports; everything in the forest; travel; and acting.

Meek appeared in a handful of minor roles in television and short films before landing the role of Young Baby Driver in Edgar Wright’s 2010 action comedy about a getaway driver tied to a crime boss and a heist gone wrong. The film was a critical and box office hit that helped push Meek’s career forward. He noted other credits on the network series MacGyver, Grants and Found.

Hudson is survived by his parents, Derek Firth Meek and Lani Wells Meek; his older brother, Tucker Firth Meek; and his grandmothers, Margaret Green Meek and Faye Searcy Wells. A celebration of life service will be held for Meek on December 28th at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
