LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – We had a somewhat wet Christmas in SWLA, but don’t put away those rain gear just yet.

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Christmas, but you’ll get a chance to test the new umbrellas very soon. Thursday will start out mostly mild and humid as temperatures slowly climb from the upper 50s and low 60s. Scattered showers will be possible most of the day, but late afternoon into the evening is when we’ll be watching for a line of showers and thunderstorms moving out of Texas into the SWLA.

First warning forecast

There is a small risk that individual storms could be on the strong side with all kinds of severe weather possible. This includes damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Tornado conditions may remain in a very small window and mostly over Texas during the afternoon, but the risk remains, so be sure to pay attention to the weather this evening. You can always check the radar and any warnings using our First Alert Weather app.

Some chance of showers will stick around Friday as our more active patch prepares to close. A cold front could stall a bit through Saturday with its own rain chances before sweeping through Sunday and leaving us with clearer conditions heading into next week.

That front will bring a slight drop in temperatures as we approach the new year, but we don’t expect particularly cold temperatures compared to the last few weeks.
