‘Baby Driver’ actor Hudson Joseph Meek, 16, killed after falling from moving car

A young actor’s life came to a tragic end after he fell out of a moving car just days before Christmas.

Hudson Joseph Meek, 16, suffered serious injuries after falling from the vehicle on the evening of Dec. 19 in his hometown of Vestavia Hills, Ala. – located just south of Birmingham.

Two days later, the “Baby Driver” actor “peacefully” succumbed to his injuries on Dec. 21.

“Our hearts are broken to tell you that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” his mother, Lani Wells Meek, wrote on her Facebook page. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he achieved so much and greatly influenced everyone he met.”

The Vestavia Hills Police Department is investigating how the incident occurred, the local NBC affiliate WVTM reported.

“He was surrounded by friends, family and the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” the obituary for Meek read. “Hudson was an organ donor and his family is comforted knowing that he will continue to help others for years to come.”

The Alabama native is mostly known for acting in the three-time Oscar-nominated film “Baby Driver” as the role of Young Baby. But he also guest-starred on the Emmy-nominated TV series “MacGyver” and did voiceover work for Toys R Us, McDonald’s and the online video game “League of Legends.”

“Hudson was also an accomplished actor,” his obituary added. “He worked on several major movies and TV shows, some of which will be released in 2025. He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the chance to learn the names and stories of each member of the cast and crew.”

Meek had a very active off-screen life as a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, including playing on the football team, singing in the Honor Choir, and being a part of student government.

Outside of school, he earned an advanced open water scuba diving certificate at age 14 and visited all 50 US states.

“Hudson’s personality was outstanding,” the obituary said. “He was confident, convinced in his beliefs, spontaneous and quick. He never let facts get in the way of a funny story and he loved friendly banter.”

He is survived by his parents, brother, grandmothers and aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Ala.

His family established the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship that will be awarded to a Vestavia Hills High School student each year. They are asking people to donate to the fund instead of sending flowers, the obituary said.
