Warriors wasted Steph Curry’s rare NBA moment in loss to Lakers

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry’s monster Christmas Eve performance and incredible game-tying 3-pointer earned a rare feat from ESPN’s NBA play-by-play announcer Mike Breen.

And the Dubs wasted it just moments later.

Curry finished with 38 points Wednesday night and eight 3-pointers, but the Warriors lost 115-113 when Lakers forward Austin Reaves beat Andrew Wiggins off the dribble for a game-winning layup with one second left to hand the Warriors a crushing loss.

The game was tied only because of Curry’s surge in the fourth quarter, when the superstar scored eight points in 18 seconds to pull the Warriors even. The final basket was a wide-open 31-footer (thanks to a crucial Draymond Green screen and a Lakers defensive breakdown) that earned a rarity from Breen.

The longtime top voice in the NBA uses his signature “Bang!” call for a big shot in play, but will occasionally drop to “Bang!” calls in succession – known as a double-BANG – for a really big shot. His most famous is Curry’s insanely deep 3-pointer in Oklahoma City in 2016, a moment that will forever bond the broadcaster and the basketball player together. Breen did just that on Wednesday after Curry’s 3-pointer went through the hoop.

But then Reaves put in that final basket, Curry’s last-second heave never stood a chance, and the Dubs lost another game, falling to 3-11 in their last 14 games after starting the season 12-3. Shortly after the buzzer, Trayce Jackson-Davis told reporters after the game, as Curry spoke during a player-directed meeting pregame. Curry’s message to the team, according to Jackson-Daviswas that the season “could go one way or the other.”

After another close loss, momentum for this Dubs season only points downward as the new year approaches.
