Jack Black, Paul Rudd Reboot gets Christmas 2025 release

Christmas Day 2025 is booming in terms of product. In the wake of the Lionsgate dating, Paul Feig directed Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried thriller, The housemaid and A24 with their Timothee Chalamet ping-pong champ film Marty Supreme, Sony is at it with their reimagined comedy Anaconda starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black.

The film is from director Tom Gormican. Daniela Melchior also stars in the film written by The unbearable weight of massive talent authors Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form produce through the Fully Formed banner.

The original 1997 Anaconda starring Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Owen Wilson and Ice Cube and followed a National Geographic-esque film crew who are taken hostage by an insane hunter who forces them on his quest to capture the world’s largest and deadliest snake, an anaconda. The film grossed $65.9 million domestically from a $16.6 million opening and went on to earn $136.9 million worldwide. The film was an early box office success for Lopez and Cube.

Also opening on Christmas Day is Amazon MGM Studios’ Sarah’s oil, an untitled Angel Studios film and an untitled Universal event feature. All of this opens after Disney/20th Century Studios’ big James Cameron trequel Avatar: Fire and Ashes on December 19 next year. Also on the weekend before Christmas is an untitled Warner Bros. movie and an untitled SpongeBob Squarepants movie from Paramount.

Sony will keep a rally going from 2025 to 2026: Yesterday, the Culver City party dated the Nia DaCosta-directed sequel 28 Days Later: The Bone Temple for release on January 16, 2026.
