ORLANDO, Fla.American Airlines flights have resumed after a “technical problem“Christmas Eve morning caused a nationwide grounding of its flights, according to officials.

The problem affected systems needed to clear flights, the airline said.

American Airlines requested a ground stop for all of its flights early Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration reported. The ground stop was lifted just before 8 ET.

The problem arose as millions travel during the holiday season.

American Airlines released this statement about the incident:

“A supplier technology issue briefly affected flights this morning. That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this morning. It’s all hands on deck as our team works hard to get customers to where they need to go as quickly as possible.”
