The San Jose State Spartans and that South Florida Bulls may be the two luckiest teams in college football. Why? Because they will spend Christmas in Hawaii as this year’s competitors in the Hawaii Bowl.

That said, there is an extra level of motivation for San Jose State (7-5). Spartans‘ head coach Ken Niumataolo is a native of Hawaii and wants to prove himself in his home state. However, it may be more difficult than expected. South Florida Taurus (6-6) have a history of doing well in bowl games, having won three of their last four, including a 45-0 sweep of Syracuse in the Boca Raton Bowl last year.

Burke writes, “I think both teams will be sufficiently motivated here, so I don’t think we have to worry about mindset or psychology. All we have to worry about is whether (quarterback Byrum) Brown plays (for South Florida) or not. And hopefully with some delivery time, I’ll sway to the San Jose State side to have the better defense and that Brown is rusty.

Cameron Zunkel, ClutchPoints: South Florida wins

Zunkel wins: “This could end up being a good game. San Jose State is without (wide receiver) Nick Nash and a few other players, so it’s going to be harder for them to score. Because Nash is out, I’ll take South Florida to win outright.”
