blue blood‘ well-rated series finale has been aired in the middle TV program 2024bringing the show to a close after 14 seasons. Although it’s still hard to believe that the show is over, it was impressive. The procedural became a CBS Friday night staple, and that’s in part because of the cast, which includes Tom Selleck. After playing Frank Reagan for over a decade, Selleck opened up about the “danger” of doing a show for so many years and how he avoided it while playing Frank Reagan.

It was understandably difficult for Tom Selleck to wrap up blue blood. Still, he’s obviously no stranger to saying goodbye to a long-running role, having appeared on the original Magnum P.I back in the 80s, which ran for eight seasons. In the end, BB ended up being his longest running role, which is something to be proud of. But given the body of work he’s done, Selleck is well aware of the pitfalls one can face when playing a role for as long as he told Weekly entertainment:

For some actors, it would be difficult to stay in the same role for so long, as you are mostly flexing the same kind of acting muscles every single day. With that, there is a temptation to get too comfortable and you may even get bored as a result as well. Fortunately for Jesse Stone icon, he never felt that way while playing Frank Reagan because, like all the characters on blue bloodthe longer the show went on, the more the characters developed. And it’s something the now 79-year-old actor really appreciated:

It may be the best benefit of a broadcast in years. As a viewer, I enjoy seeing how characters develop as the actors get older and learn more about them. Adding layers to them in organic ways can be hit or miss, but I would argue that BB The writers and producers did a solid job with that. And based on social media posts shared over the years, fans enjoyed it.

On that note, Selleck doesn’t understand why CBS ended blue blood and was also frustrated by the cancellation. His recent comments have suggested that the show meant a lot to him. Selleck has previously spoken about the show’s longevity and between the Reagan family dinners and the action. Despite the cancellation, Selleck aims to do one thing:

There have been rumored discussions about a possible blue blood spinoff, and while nothing has been confirmed, it wouldn’t be surprising if CBS were to move forward with one. While it would be hard to match the success of the OG show, I’m sure Tom Selleck would be game – as long as his character doesn’t get old or predictable. Right now you can stream BB using a Paramount+ subscription.
