Tonight: A few spotty showers south of St. Louis are possible, otherwise cloudy skies and above normal temperatures are expected.

Tuesday (Christmas Eve): Watch for patches of dense fog in the morning. We may see some showers to the south, but they will slowly lift north and cut off St. Louis metro mid- to late-day and into the evening. Some areas of the northwest will not see much rain as there will be a sharp cutoff, but currently we expect the rain to clip St. Louis metro and it will intensify south/southeast.

Wednesday (Christmas): The rain showers will continue on Christmas morning and subside in the afternoon. However, some lingering drizzle is possible during the day. But any steady rain will have ended as temperatures will be slightly above normal in the upper 40s.

What’s next: A major warm-up arrives Friday-Saturday with highs near 60, but comes with another chance for rain. That rain could begin Thursday night, and showers will be possible at times through Saturday. The models have yet to fully agree on the details for this 2nd round of rain, so stay tuned as we tweak the timing for you.

New Year’s Eve and Day: We’re seeing signs of a system that could bring some precipitation to the region Tuesday, though the latest timing shows it ending Wednesday New Year’s Day. It’s too early to plan and we’ll see some big changes, but we’ll keep you posted if model trensteveds hone in on precipitation possibilities that could affect your NYE plans.
