Connor Bedard has a big game, but the Blackhawks end the streak

The Chicago Blackhawks won three straight for the first time in the Connor Bedard era with their victory over the Seattle Kraken on Thursday. On Saturday, they hit the field to play the Calgary Flames looking for their fourth streak.

Things didn’t start well for Chicago as Calgary took a 2-0 lead in the first period and carried it into halftime. Another multi-goal comeback was needed if the Hawks were going to make it four in a row. They already had one of them lined up.

In the second period, Connor Bedard scored to get Chicago on the board and within one. This was a beautiful shot after Taylor Hall found him with a great pass on a two-on-one. Bedard now has 30 career goals, passing Patrick Kane (29) for the second most goals scored by a teenager in franchise history.

Throughout the rest of the second period, the Flames scored three unanswered to make it 5-1. At the time, it felt like the Hawks probably weren’t going to win. That being said, this team doesn’t stop in games no matter what the score is.

Within the first minute of the third period, Tyler Bertuzzi scored to make it 5-2. The momentum was carried to the point where he was able to score a second goal of the game at 11:30 in the final frame.

Connor Bedard assisted on both Bertuzzi goals. That made it a three-point night for Bedard, who now has 29 points in 34 games played. That’s incredible production for a 19-year-old player, the second youngest in the NHL.

To make things extra interesting, Ilya Mikheyev scored at 18:52 to get the Hawks within a goal (5-4). Mikheyev now has a goal in four consecutive games. Like all of his other goals of late, Teuvo Teravainen assisted on it to give him another two-point effort.

Calgary ended up putting one into the empty net, giving them the 6-4 victory. The Hawks weren’t able to make it four straight, but Bedard had a great night along with some other prominent Blackhawks.

It has been said before and it will be said again. At this point, wins and losses are not important to the Hawks this season. Would it be nice to win more? Sure. The long-term value is in developing players to get the most out of them.

Since Anders Sørensen has taken over, we have started to see some of that come true at the NHL level. Young players and veterans alike have found the back of the net with much more frequency.

The Blackhawks now have one more game before the holiday break. They will make a stop in St. Paul on Monday to take on the Minnesota Wild for a divisional game. After another big offensive game in Calgary, Connor Bedard and the Blackhawks should have confidence in their group going into the next game.
