Fresno State Bulldogs quarterback Mikey Keene has committed to transfer to Michigan WolverinesOn3’s Hayes Fawcett has learned.

Michigan will now be Keene’s third stop as a college quarterback, having previously played for UCF Knights as well as Fresno State. His transfer recruitment then became one of the most interesting to follow as one of the best Group of Five players on the portal as he also paid a visit with Miss Ole as well as with Michigan.

Mikey Keene played his high school football in Chandler, Arizona. There, he was a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 63rd-ranked quarterback and the 817th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.

Prior to the 2024 season, Mikey Keene was one of the quarterbacks named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list.

Keene originally went to Fresno State looking for an opportunity to earn the starting job. He did, and over two seasons he played in 24 games. With the Bulldogs, Keene completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 5,868 and 42 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. He has a career average of 211.4 yards per game.

During his time with UCF, Keene saw significant playing time, appearing in 15 games, often as an injury replacement. But in his sophomore season, he played in just four games and redshirted when he transferred out of the program. That will make him a fifth-year senior in 2025.

Mikey Keene joins a Michigan team that struggled at the quarterback position in 2024. The Wolverines used several different quarterbacks trying to replace first-round NFL Draft picks JJ McCarthy. Still, the Wolverines as a team finished the season ranked only 130th out of 134 teams in the passed offenceaveraged 133.6 yards per battle through the air. Three of the teams behind Michigan were service academies. On top of that, Michigan as a team threw 11 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

Head coach Sherrone Moore has been working hard to solve the quarterback situation. From the high school ranks, Michigan was able to turn around Bryce Underwooda five-star quarterback who is the top-ranked player overall in the class of 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
