Newly reported update on the Red Sox’s plans after the Walker Buehler deal

The Red Sox reportedly added another notable name on Monday, and they may not be done chasing big game this offseason.

Boston, according to multiple reports, agreed to a deal with two-time All-Star pitcher Walker Buehler. Buehler is coming off a stellar 2024 run with the Los Angeles Dodgers that earned the 30-year-old his second career World Series championship.

Shortly after the Red Sox-Buehler deal was reported, Audacy’s Rob Bradford outlined what could be waiting for Boston after his last marking move. In doing so, the veteran club’s insider put the spotlight on one of the best players still available in free agency.

“Alex Bregman also continues to be a target, with Detroit seemingly representing the club most aggressively trying to sign the infielder,” Bradford wrote.

The Red Sox have been linked to Bregman in consistent rumors since the start of the offseason. The veteran third baseman, who has a big fan in manager Alex Cora, would give Boston the power-hitting right-handed bat the club needs and is reportedly open to playing second base.

That said, signing Bregman wouldn’t be a cheap move for the Red Sox. It’s now up to Craig Breslow and the rest of the club’s front office to decide if Bregman is worth the contract he desires.
