Bryant shared photos the moment Washington gave his life to Christ in a Facebook post.

“We celebrate the addition of Minister Denzel Washington to the priesthood, having received his ministerial license in the Church of God in Christ today, in a truly uplifting moment,” the post read.

“He’s dressed that way because he received water baptism in the same service,” Bryant added. “Both the baptism and licensing took place at the historic Kelly Temple in NYC, a place close to his heart. Denzel Washington attended this church as a child and testified to being filled with the Holy Spirit after visiting another church with actor Robert Townsend in the 80s.”

“It’s not like we all get together in one place and discuss what we believe in. So I don’t know how many other actors have beliefs. I didn’t do any polling. How was I supposed to find out? I mean, there is no church actor Meetings I have been to.”

Washington got his breakthrough role in the medical drama “St. Elsewhere” in 1982. He earned several nominations for his work on the show and was eventually able to break into film.
