SZA Reveals Her Celebrity Crush in New Album Lana

SZA’s celebrity crush is surprisingly not any of the rappers or love interests who have starred in her music videos.

On her new album Lanawhich was released on Friday, December 20, the singer, 35, appeared to reveal her crush on Martin Scorsese in the aptly named song “Scorsese Baby Daddy.”

In the unexpected tribute track to Scorsese, 82, SZA sings the lyrics: “I rolled up all my problems / And then I smoked about it / I could have called my mother / I’d rather f— about it / Addicted to that drama / Scorsese baby daddy.”

SZA also fantasizes about being in a scenario that sounds like a scene from one of Scorsese’s famous films, such as Goodfellas, taxi driver, or The Wolf of Wall Street – although she does not refer to any specific characters or titles of the director.

She continues in the song, “I’d pretend to do my favorite man, he’d call me tasty / Raging lady, then I wonder if I could do it, baby / One day I’ll understand all that it takes to be a lady.”

Fans have shared their thoughts on the pitch with many wondering how Scorsese will react.

“I need Martin Scorsese to listen and respond to Scorsese’s baby daddy RIGHT NOW,” one listener wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“SZA has a song called Scorsese Baby Daddy on SOS Deluxe Best track title ever,” another fan tweeted. Another person commented: “I just listened to Scorsese’s baby daddy and I feel like I’m floating, I swear it’s just superb.”

The Oscar-winning director, who has three daughters, married his fifth and current wife, Helen Morris, in 1999.

SZA’s adorable song for Scorsese comes despite the singer generally being private when it comes to her love life.

In 2020, SZA confirmed that she had a brief romance with Drake back in 2009 after the rapper talked about the pair dating in his song “Mr. Right Now,” released that year.

The “Snooze” singer has also previously spoken in interviews and in her music about her ex-fiancé, whom she met after high school and dated for 11 years.

In an interview with Rolling Stone released in October 2023, SZA said the couple split “five or six years earlier” and that many of the songs on her 2022 album SOS was inspired by the relationship and breakup, including the hit track “Nobody Gets Me”.

In an interview with British Vogue in November, SZA claimed that her ex-fiancé had requested that she no longer talk about him at shows.

“I can’t even talk about my experience? I’m in jail!” she told the outlet. “Despite his hatred for me, I would still trust him with my life. He is one of the smartest people I know.”
