Injured Dak Prescott announces offseason plans as Jerry Jones blames QB for holding Cowboys back in offseason

It was just the second time in Dak Prescott’s nine-year NFL career that he missed a Thanksgiving start after suffering a hamstring injury during the Cowboys’ Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. It was not clear exactly when the veteran was injured, but he left the contest in the fourth quarter and did not return.

Prescott’s initial diagnosis was a partial avulsion of his hamstring, meaning the hamstring was partially torn from the bone. While he was initially expected to miss several weeks, it was later announced that Prescott would miss the remainder of the 2024 season. It also became clear that he would need surgery to repair it.

“He wants it there in New York,” said owner Jerry Jones. “He had a good visit last night and he wants to make it there and he’s got good doctors up there. His prognosis is wonderful, it just means we’re not going to have him the rest of the year,” Jones had further added 105.3 The Fan last month. Prescott went 3-5 as a starter this season, completing 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. But the injury didn’t seem to have dampened Prescott’s spirit, and he’s already set on his off-season plans.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the former Mississippi State Bulldogs standout shared an exciting update for the young aspiring quarterbacks. Redistributing the third youth football quarterback (3DQB) academy post, the three-time Pro Bowler announced the 4th Annual Dallas Quarterback Camp.

According to the caption, the 31-year-old veteran QB will impart key lessons to the youth athletes at the camp. According to the latest post, on the 4th annual Texas Camp will be held between January 31 and February 2 at Celina High School. 3DQB Academy initially announced the details of the camp through their post text. “Exciting news for aspiring quarterbacks!. Join fellow athletes for three days of intense training, expert coaching and unforgettable experiences.” they further added in their post text.

Moreover, they also mentioned the detailed reasons why aspiring athletes should attend this camp. Under “Why you can’t miss this camp,” headline, they wrote the important points.

Top training from experienced quarterbacks. Tailored exercises to increase your performance. Meet and network with other athletes. Exclusive camp equipment for all participants“, they noted in the post text. Apart from this, they also mentioned the form link and all the necessary details to join the camp in their disclaimer.

So with this annual camp, aspiring athletes can get a chance to take lessons from Dak Prescott to bring out their A-game. And it seems the Cowboys quarterback is just as happy to provide training to youth athletes. According to the report, “In our consecutive offseasons, Dak Prescott has worked with John Beck and the coaches at 3DQ. This practice is also what led to his Dak Dance pregame routine.” However, this is not the only welfare activity Prescott is participating in as he deals with his injury.

Prescott has a foundation called Faith Fight Finish (FFF) which he seeks to invest in a better future for people, families and communities in adverse situations. It was created as a tribute to his mother Peggy, who died of colon cancer in 2013, and honors his brother Jace, who committed suicide in 2020.

Through Faith Fight Finish and in partnership with DICKS Sporting Goods, Prescott decided to benefit 30 children from St. Philip’s School, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, where hundreds of children are trained in religion to be agents of change in society and develop human capital.

Prescott shared the initiative on his Instagram account, writing: “Tis the season! Faith Fight Finish Foundation was honored to bring 30 amazing kids from @stphilips1600 school to Dick’s Sporting Goods for an unforgettable Christmas experience.” Prescott invested $500 for each of the children at the school. But it didn’t stop there as he also ‘invited’ the famous grilled cheese sandwiches from ‘Ruthie’s For Good’.

In November, Prescott had joined Simone Biles, Chris Paul and Quinn Ewers to take part in a festive decorating challenge with the DICK’S Sports Matter program to benefit local youth sports organizations. “It’s about creating memories, spreading joy and supporting the next generation. Let’s keep fighting the good fight together! Merry Christmas!” Prescott said in a message. But while his offseason plans are going strong, Jerry Jones blamed him.

What went south between Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott?

Just hours before the season opener in September, Jones signed Prescott to a record-setting, four-year, $240 million contract extension with a remarkable $231 million guaranteed. This made the Cowboys quarterback the highest paid player in the NFL with an average annual salary of $60 million. The previous high was $55 million APY. Prescott also broke NFL records for the highest signing bonus ever ($80 million) and the most guaranteed money ever. That’s a steep price for a quarterback with just two playoff wins in eight seasons.

At the time, despite the massive financial commitment, Jones believed the contract was worth it because it locked up a quarterback the team would go to war for every single week. Jones, who turned 82 on Oct. 13, also had hoped Prescott would be the Cowboys’ quarterback for the rest of his life, which he believes will last beyond the expiration of the latest deal in the 2029 offseason.

“The number is right and the number is … what it means is a big commitment for the next five years, for our future if you will. There’s a lot of me that thinks I hope Dak is our quarterback for the rest of my time, so it’s not just limited to the terms of this contract either.” Jones said via Yahoo Sports. “I got a lot of confidence in him. He’s got a lot, brings so much to the table. He’s a player that the team follows. That’s huge. Roger Staubach told me when I asked him, ‘Let’s go back or move around at quarterback ?’ He said, ‘I don’t know about that. Got someone the team wants to follow.'”

But a few days ago, Jones and his son claimed they had no cap space to make moves in the offseason. Having failed to convince Cowboys star QB, to accept a ‘team-friendly’ contract for this offseason, the Cowboys owner openly blamed Prescott for this. He claimed so Dak Prescott who signed $240 million contract extension with the Cowboys prior to this season, is why the team has limited flexibility this offseason.

According to a report published by SI.com, Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones revealed the team’s limitations. “But you have a limit on the availability of the cap (in the future) when you flip these switches. … You make your choices. It’s a different (cap) lead when you got the more expensive player at quarterback,” he stated during a discussion with the journalist The Athletic. While he blamed Prescott, some fans even thought it was just an easy way out for Jones. But as long as his team continues to make a lot of money, we can’t expect him to change his approach or mindset.
