Dave Canales: Bryce Young will remain the starter for the rest of the season

Bryce Young has started the last seven games at quarterback for the Panthers and will finish the year with 10 straight starts as long as he stays healthy.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales has resisted calling Young the starter for the rest of the season during that run, but that changed Friday. Canales said Young will remain in the role until the end of the campaign and explained why last week’s four-turnover performance against the Cowboys helped lead to the announcement.

“Watching him in the game was it was so impressiveCanales said via Alex Zietlow Charlotte Observer. “Seeing him just continue to stay in there, having his footwork exactly where he needed to be to throw to No. 1 in progression and really still see the field. I couldn’t go past Monday without telling him. I’ve been around football for 15 years and can see where games like that can really pile up on a guy. To see him handle it and be composed and talk to his teammates and keep working through the issues, I thought was so impressive and I wanted to make sure he knew that. It was great, and that’s exactly what it’s like to play quarterback.”

Young is 177-of-296 for 1,791 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions this season.
