Amtrak suspends service between Philadelphia, New York

Amtrak has temporarily suspended service between Philadelphia and New York Sunday morning due to freezing temperatures in the region.

Trains are halted between the two cities due to downed overhead lines, Amtrak said in a statement Sunday morning. Service is not expected to resume until noon, according to for an update posted around 8am

The downed lines could create some problems for travelers this holiday season with just days until Christmas and Hanukkah.

The delay comes as freezing temperatures plague much of New Jersey Sunday morning. The National Weather Service reported that the region will see temperatures that are 20 degrees below normal for this time of year, with highs only reaching the 20s and lows expected to be in the single digits and low teens.
