‘Anaconda’ reboot sets release date with Paul Rudd, Jack Black

Paul Rudd and Jack Black announced that their new remake of “Anaconda” will be a Christmas movie – or at least it will slide into theaters that day.

The Funnymen revealed the December 25, 2025 release date (and showed off their chemistry) in a promo clip uploaded Friday morning.

“We’re making a movie!” Black exclaims at the start of the video, confirming earlier reports that he and Rudd would be teaming up to star in the snake story.

Tom Gormican, who directed “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” is helming the Columbia Pictures film from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten. Plot details, including Black and Rudd’s roles, are still being kept under wraps, but Black confirms a key point: “It’s going to be a big fucking snake, and it’s going to rip!”

According to Rudd, the film will have something for everyone. “Do you want to be scared? Do you want to laugh? Do you want to celebrate with your friends?” he says, then he fails. “Or maybe you’re lonely and sad and have no one, but you just want to forget it? It will be released for Christmas in 2025.”

During the rest of the 53-second clip, the pair rattle off several creepy jokes about the film “coming” to theaters, after which Black offers to introduce Rudd to their reptilian co-star.

“Dude, have you seen this snake? It’s in that room, right there,” he says, directing a giddy Rudd to follow him out of frame. “They’re feeding it to a donkey—come on!”

Despite sharing a title, “Anaconda” is not a remake of the 1997 thriller in which Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Ice Cube, among a National Geographic film crew, were taken hostage by an unhinged, multi-accented hunter (Jon Voight ) on his quest to capture the world’s largest and deadliest snake. That film was a box office hit, earning $136 million at the global box office and spawning four sequels.

Gormican’s film reportedly takes a meta turn — which he successfully orchestrated with Nicolas Cage with “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” — and is focused on a group of friends who face midlife crises and set out to remake their favorite . movies from their youth. But when they enter the jungle, things get really fast.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing “Anaconda” via their Fully Formed banner, which inked a first-look deal with Sony division Screen Gems earlier this year. Black and Rudd are also closely aligned with Sony thanks to the hit series “Jumanji” and “Ghostbusters.”
