Mariah Carey Explains How Son Roc Taught Her To Play Fortnite (Exclusive)

It’s time to unfreeze the Queen of Christmas – on Fortnite.

After emerging from a block of ice that appeared on the island a few days ago, Mariah Carey will bring her festive spirit – and holiday favorite “All I Want for Christmas Is You” – to Winter party until January 7.

“My Fortnite character is basically me with some different outfits, skins,” the “We Belong Together” artist, 55, tells PEOPLE. “I’m so excited about this. It’s really sweet.”

Fans will be able to celebrate the holidays with “really cute” new outfits in store, like Carey’s Santa outfit inspired by Merry Christmas album cover and a glamorous gold number inspired by Liberation of Mimi album cover.

While Carey’s Fotnite alter ego is a non-player character, players can “celebrate” with her.”

“She’s running and she’s spinning. She’s doing a little dance from the 2019 ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ music video and to ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ as a jam track,” Carey explains.

According to the singing icon, her interest in Fortnite stems from her 13-year-old son, Moroccan, aka “Roc,” who she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

“I watched my son play Fortnite for the longest time, and then he taught me how to play,” Carey says. “It’s been a sweet little jaunt to figure out if we’d be able to do this (Fortnite collaboration) or not.”

After wrapping up her Christmas Time Tour on Dec. 17 in Brooklyn, where she signed Rihanna’s chest, the “Heartbreaker” artist also opens up to PEOPLE about the future of her holiday shows.

“I really love doing it, I just need to schedule it a little differently because this year I was getting sick just from being out there too long,” says Carey, who was forced to cancel three shows after she came down with the flu.

Of course, Carey added that her Christmas shows are something she’ll probably “always want to do.”

The Grammy winner also revealed that she’s not “tired of” Christmas at all – and would love to cover “another slow, sad song” for the festive season.

“I’m in Aspen and right now ‘Oh, Santa’ is playing over the speakers. And I’m like, ‘I guess I’m not tired of it,'” laughs Carey.
