John Mulaney says Olivia Munn’s mother asked for ’round trip ticket’ to get mail in Oklahoma

John Mulaney will do a lot for his loved ones, but a round-trip flight to grab a piece of mail? Maybe not.

While performing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Friday, Dec. 20, host Seth Meyers asked how his wife Olivia Munn’s mother, Kim Munn, is doing, and — naturally — Saturday Night Live alum, 42, gave a life update by sharing a funny story.

“She’s fine. She’s been living with us in California,” Mulaney told Meyers, 50. “I’m not sure how long it’s going to last and — or why it’s actually happening.”

After Kim moved in with the family, the comedian continued, “she got a property bill for her home in Oklahoma.”

To secure the post, she asked Mulaney for a small favor – a round-trip flight.

“She asked me if I would book her a plane ticket back to Oklahoma to get the envelope out of the mailbox and then fly back,” he explained, prompting a giggle from Meyers.

A puzzled Mulaney then asked Kim why she didn’t ask her sister — who is also her neighbor in Oklahoma — to just send the bill to her current address in California, to which she apparently replied, “I don’t want it to travel that far. But I don’t like my mail traveling that far.”

So the comedian offered another solution. At the time, Kim’s husband had to go back to Oklahoma, so he posed, “Why don’t you give him the check and he’ll fly back and mail it?”

“And she said, ‘I don’t want my check flying on a plane,'” Mulaney recalled. “So she wanted a return ticket to mail a letter in Oklahoma.”

After pausing to laugh, Meyers then ribbed, “So it sounds like it’s going pretty well,” and Mulaney agreed, “Yeah, things are good. It’s minute to minute.”

However, he did not reveal if or how Kim ultimately got his property bill.

Kim officially became Mulaney’s mother-in-law earlier this year when he and Olivia, 44, tied the knot.

The couple married in July in a simple, intimate ceremony at a friend’s home in upstate New York, a source close to Mulaney told PEOPLE at the time. Only their son, Malcolm Hiep, and a witness were present.

The couple also welcomed another child – and younger sister to Malcolm, 3 – Méi June, months later in September.

At the time, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that the couple was “in total bliss with Méi and Malcolm.”

“After everything they’ve been through, there’s no tighter, closer little family,” the insider added.
