Trump on the Panama Canal: Lower fees or the US will demand its return

President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that the Panama Canal charges “exorbitant rates and passage rates” to U.S. naval and merchant ships, and he demanded that the fees be lowered or Panama would return the canal to the United States.

“The fees charged by Panama are ridiculous, especially in light of the extraordinary generosity that has been bestowed upon Panama by the United States,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “This complete ‘unmasking’ of our country will immediately stop.”
