Greg McElroy: Benching Quinn Ewers for Arch Manning would be ‘unfortunate’ for Texas

Greg McElroy means Steve Sarkisian and that Texas Longhorns must keep their faith in Quinn Ewers under theirs College football playoff ran and he uses the film Wild girls to drive his point home.

Some think Arch Manning could take over as Texas’ starting quarterback if Ewers falters during the Longhorns’ clash with Clemson Tigers Saturday afternoon. During a performance at Stand upMcElroy stated that Sarkisian needs to make this run with Ewers before handing Manning the keys to the car in 2025.

“I’ve been saying this for a while. I have a younger sister, and there was a movie that she watched religiously when we were a little bit younger. It’s a movie called Wild girls. There is a moment in Wild girls movies where they say, ‘Stop trying to make fetch happen.’ That’s kind of what I’m going to say about this Arch thing,” McElroy said. “Let’s stop trying to make Arch his uncles right now. He’s getting there. He will become a great player in time. I really believe in his upside. I believe in his mobility. I think he could have a package in this system, seriously. I think in this playoff it wouldn’t be surprising, in the red zone, if he was on the field.

“But being on the field for anything more than the situational play right now, I think, would be detrimental to an offense that’s probably going to have to pitch in the win. You look at the teams that they’re likely to face between now and the national championship, they’re going to have to throw it to win the national championship. So I think Arch will be a great player situationally, but at this point, Quinn is your guy and should hopefully take you to the promised land. , if you is a Longhorns fan.”

While McElroy’s plan sounds all well and good in theory, it remains to be seen how Sarkisian will respond if Texas finds itself down at any point during their CFP run. Nick Saban wasn’t afraid to switch from Regret hurts to Tua Tagovailoa during the national title game, and it paid off nicely for Alabama. It’s something that will be in the back of Sarkisian’s mind.

It remains to be seen how Texas will fare, but Steve Sarkisian recognizes the expectations placed on his shoulders at the moment. Whether it’s Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning at quarterback, the Longhorns expect to hoist the trophy at the end of it all.
