OSU to showcase historic drone show, light up shoe with Scarlet Glow for playoffs

Ohio Stadium will be a vision in red when the Buckeyes host Tennessee in a College Football Playoff game on Saturday.

A Scarlet Glow is just one way OSU will light up Ohio Stadium this weekend.

Scarlet LEDs have been installed around all parts of the stadium and will illuminate the pitch, the fans in the stands and above The Shoe. You’ll even be able to see the glow while driving the 315.

The behind-the-scenes team said they believe the glow will send a statement to Tennessee and the team’s fans.

“I think they’re going to realize it’s really going to be a Buckeye home game,” said Associate AD of Marketing and Live Events Caleb Clark. “The scarlet glow and feel of everything will energize Buckeye fans and energize the team as well.”

Fans will also witness a historic moment on Saturday. The biggest drone show in college athletics history will take place between the third and fourth quarter.

The show, which is produced by the company Sky elementswill include 500 drones that will fly 550 feet above the south video board at the stadium.

“The drone show is going to go up during ‘Hang on Sloopy,’ so there might be something you say during that song that you might see on the drones,” Clark hinted. “The drones will also form a CFP logo and two Ohio State formations.”

Clark said fans will also see a laser show projection Friday night at the rotunda and Saturday during the game.

“The round will glow red and there will be a few elements that will be shot up there from lasers,” Clark said. “The home team’s tunnel will also be illuminated with lasers for the team’s entrances.”

It will certainly be a night of history at The Shoe.
