NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey Resigns Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations; John Chell named interim chief

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — The NYPD says Chief Jeffrey Maddrey has resigned following allegations of sexual misconduct.

The department issued the following statement:

“Police Chief Jessica S. Tisch accepted the resignation of Chief Jeffrey Maddrey Friday evening, effective immediately. The NYPD takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously and will thoroughly investigate this matter.”

The NYPD announced that Tisch has appointed John Chell to replace Maddrey as interim chief of the department.

Chell most recently served as patrol chief.

Transportation Manager Philip Rivera will take over that role.
