Teen arrested in California high school stabbing was racially bullied, his mother says

A mother claims her 14-year-old son has been bullied at Verdugo Hills High School and that the attacks allegedly have to do with him being black.

Despite video evidence, her son’s attackers are not being disciplined, the mother said.

Earlier this month, the high school grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons after a stabbing incident broke out on campus and the 14-year-old ended up being arrested.

The mother says all of this could have been avoided if the school had stepped in during the earlier alleged attacks.

FOX 11 was shown cell phone video of her son being knocked to the bathroom floor as two other students jumped over him. At one point racial insults were hurled by the students.

His mother, who did not give her name, said she met with the school days after the bathroom fight.

“They didn’t care,” the mother recalled. “Didn’t do anything for the other kids.”

Instead, according to her, the school offered to transfer her son to another school.

The stabbing forced the school to shut down and two students ended up needing medical attention. The woman’s son has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, she said.

The lawyer representing the teenager claims he was just protecting himself.

FOX 11 reached out to LAUSD hoping to hear from the district, but a spokesperson said it does not comment on pending litigation.
