Light snow coming in tonight, some slick patches during the morning commute

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – While only a shower or two is expected until about 9 p.m., as we approach midnight – and likely until Friday mid-morning – light snow will fall on and off across much of the area thanks to being in the area. direct route to an Alberta Clipper! As explained in yesterday’s forecast discussion, these systems generally don’t have a lot of moisture to work with, and as the name suggests, they move quite quickly. As a result, accumulations will likely be limited to an inch or so for most, although closer to the Michigan line, some communities could see amounts closer to 1.5″.

As for the morning commute (4-9am), I would still plan for some deceleration – maybe by as much as 5 or 10 minutes. Although only a half inch or so of accumulation is expected at that time, a little can go a long way early in the cold season! Conditions should improve quickly through the late morning and afternoon, but if you’re headed to South Bend to play, prepare for another inch or two of snow to contend with!

The weekend still looks cold with highs in the 20s, and then warmer conditions (30s to low 40s) will be the dominant theme through most of next week, including Christmas Eve and Day. Although some showers are possible Monday through Wednesday next week, I don’t foresee any significant travel disruptions related to winter weather!

BE THE FIRST: The next big thing we’re tracking could arrive late next week or the last weekend of 2024 in the form of…highs back in the 50s and possibly low 60s! Everything points to a short-term warm-up (as usual this time of year!), but it gives another opportunity to get up for some air before the next cold blast inevitably sets in 🙂
