Will it be a white Christmas in Halifax? Snow in the forecast

It could start to look like Christmas for many Nova Scotians after this weekend.

A snowfall warning was issued Thursday afternoon for the entire mainland and could bring 15 to 30 cm of snow Friday night into Saturday.

“An area of low pressure is expected to travel up the eastern seaboard and track south of Nova Scotia on Saturday, bringing snow to the province Friday night into Saturday,” Environment Canada’s statement said.

The national forecaster says similar storms have created dangerous driving conditions in the past and forced the cancellation of some activities.

For those who see snow this weekend, it’s likely to stick around, according to 95.7 NewsRadio weather specialist Allister Aalders.

“It looks like the snow will continue, temperatures will be cold Sunday through Christmas Eve and possibly Christmas Day, so it looks like what falls this weekend will stick around through Christmas,” he said.
