Lay’s Classic Potato Chips recalled over ‘life-threatening’ allergy risk

Frito-Lay issued a recall of one of its most popular potato chips over milk that has not been declared on the label, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, which shoppers can recognize by its familiar fluorescent yellow bag, are being recalled in Oregon and Washington, the FDA said Wednesday. It is unclear where there was contamination with milk, as the chips’ listed ingredients are potatoes, vegetable oil and salt.

“Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product,” the recall notice states.

The recall is for 13 oz. bag with a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of February 11, 2025 and production codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx.

No allergic reactions were reported due to the milk issue, and the company says none of its other chip flavors were affected, the release said.

Consumers in the two states are encouraged to discard their bags and contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations.
