Karen Huger receives verdict in DUI trial after car accident

The Real Housewives of Potomac‘s Karen Huger has received a verdict in her DUI trial nine months after her car accident in Maryland.

Huger, 61, was found guilty on almost all charges except reckless driving, her representative said People Wednesday, December 18. She is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29.

“While we are disappointed with the jury’s verdict, we obviously respect their decision and appreciate their time to hear our case,” said Huger’s attorney. A. Scott Boldentold People in a Wednesday announcement. “We continue to reserve Ms. Huger’s right to appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Ms. Huger and her family during this time.”

Huger was involved in a car accident in Potomac, Maryland, in March. Montgomery County Police told TMZ at the time that Huger was driving her 2017 Maserati in an “aggressive manner” in Potomac, Maryland, when she hit an intersection and a parking sign.

She was not arrested, but received several citations from police at the time. She was later charged with a DUI and DWI.

After the accident, Huger released a lengthy statement about his state of mind before the crash.

“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very scary experience. I am still in shock after what happened last night but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my beloved mother, grief comes and goes in waves and when mother’s day is coming up, it’s felt more like a tsunami,” she told TMZ in March. “Last night I met a boyfriend for dinner and we talked about some very emotional topics. I cried way home and saw a car coming towards me.I swerved to avoid the head on collision and then a tree.I’m hurt, a little bruised but so thankful to be alive!I received citations, one of which was not related to the incident, which is understandable, but the most surprising thing is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!”

She concluded: “I want to emphasize that it is important to understand your emotional state when driving and may this be a reminder to everyone to wear their seat belt. My mother may be my guardian angel, but the seat belt saved my life. “

Under Huger’s trialbody camera footage showed her saying she was “hammered” and appeared to slur her words.

Several witnesses also testified during the trial, including an EMT who claimed that Huger refused treatment at the scene of the accident and “swayed” when she tried to get into an ambulance.

Huger has been an original cast member on The Real Housewives of Potomac since premiering in 2016. The Bravo reality show is currently in its ninth season, which started in October, and has followed the aftermath of DUI.
