Lackey Tabbed Freshmen First Team All-American

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Freshman forward Ginny Lackey of the James Madison women’s soccer team has been named to the First Team All-American list for freshmen by TopDrawerSoccer as the outlet announced its Division I women’s soccer postseason awards Wednesday morning.

Lackey is the second Duke in program history to earn a spot on one of the Freshmen teams, joining Cate Tisinger who made the first team in 2007.

The TopDrawerSoccer laurel will be added to a laundry list of accolades, including Sun Belt Player and Freshman of the Year and All-Tournament Team, United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-America and First Team All-Southeast Region, ECAC Rookie of the Year , and MAC Hermann Trophy Award semifinalist.

The Bolton, Manchester native had a fantastic first season in purple and gold. Starting in 16 games, Lackey recorded back-to-back shutouts in just her second and third collegiate games, starting a program-record nine consecutive games in which she scored a goal. The streak coincided with her JMU-record 11 consecutive games of scoring a point.

After tallying 12 goals and ten assists for 34 points on the season, Lackey became the first player in JMU history and second in the Sun Belt since 2016 to win both Player and Freshman of the Year in the same season while earning First Team honors All -Sun Belt and All-Tournament Team honors. In a single season at JMU, she ranks fifth in points, eighth in assists and ninth in goals. She became the eighth Duke to record double-digit assists in a season and recorded the 13th 30-point season in program history. Lackey is also the first Duke to record at least ten goals and assists in a season since Julie Reule had 10 assists and 13 goals in 1994.

The Dukes completed a historic season this fall, winning both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships and finishing with a 12-4-5 record.
