Jewel Spear, Kaniya Boyd active for Lady Vols basketball’s road matchup with Memphis

Lady Vols basketball guards Jewel Spear and Kaniya Boyd are active for the first real road game of the season.

Spear and Boyd both warmed up for No. 16 Tennessee’s matchup with Memphis (2-7) at FedExForum on Wednesday (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPNews). Both players missed the Lady Vols’ win over NC Central Saturday due to injuries. Boyd was out due to concussion protocols and Spear missed one second game due to a lower leg injury.

Spear and Boyd were expected to return to practice Tuesday.

Spear previously missed the game against Western Carolina on Nov. 26 with the lower right leg injury. She returned to play the games against Florida State and Iowa, but Caldwell said she wasn’t 100%.

Spear is one of two returning players who started every game last season and has been a key piece to Tennessee’s undefeated start in Caldwell’s first season.
