“Incredible” Wataru Endo & Harvey Elliott among 3 Liverpool players who stand out – Liverpool FC

Several Liverpool fringe players came in for praise after the 2-1 win at Southampton on Wednesday night, highlighting the Reds’ squad depth.

This Carabao Cup quarter-final never felt like the most vital 90 minutes of the season, but it was a great chance for Arne Slot to shuffle his pack.

The Dutchman did exactly that as Liverpool went into a comfortable 2-0 lead before the break.

It wasn’t pretty after the break, with Southampton coming back into the game and threatening to equalise, but the Reds held on.

There are some good qualities in Tyler Morton. Especially his ability to break lines with progressive passes. Also has a likeable trait that his natural instinct is to pass and he has the guts to try those passes. Always also aware of his surroundings. Scans well.

This was a night to perfectly illustrate the back-up quality that Liverpool possess, with so many star names left out.

Granted, the performance wasn’t always convincing, but Endo, Morton and Elliott in particular showed their class.

If Liverpool are to contend across all four competitions this season, Slot will need to rotate effectively and avoid tired legs this spring.

On this evidence, that shouldn’t be a problem as the Reds are now unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions for the first time since 1996.
