James Marsden Praises Deadpool & Wolverine, Addresses Marvel’s Chances of Return

Actor James Marsden Not sure about one X-Men return, but he loved Deadpool and Wolverine.

While promoting his new film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Marsden was asked about his time starring in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise. The actor portrayed Scott Summers/Cyclops, a mutant superhero with the ability to emit powerful beams of energy from his eyes, in all three installments of the original X-Men film trilogy. While Cyclops was killed off in the third film, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Marsden returned as the character for a quick cameo at the end of 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, after the film’s time travel arm led to him, and countless other heroes who are resurrected.

What did James Marsden say about possibly returning as X-Men’s Cyclops?

While talking to Screen RantMarsden opened up about the chances of him reprising the role of Cyclops for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, admitting that he knows “so little about all that.” However, the actor did reveal that he got a chance to see Deadpool & Wolverine when it was in theaters, saying that he “loved the movie . . . it was amazing and seeing Hugh back in that costume was amazing.”

Returning to the odds of a Cyclops reprisal, Marsden added, “I look back on that experience with such fondness and reverence for it all, and I loved playing that character. It was definitely one of the highlights of my career. So that was a joy, and yeah, I mean, I don’t know what they’re doing or what’s going on with it all, but it was always fun to put that costume on.”

Marsden’s comments come less than a week after Tye Sheridan, who portrayed a younger version of Marsden’s Cyclops in the X-Men prequel films, cast doubt on a possible Marvel return.

“I don’t know. I don’t think there’s a question if there are more stories to tell. I think there’s probably always more stories to tell,” he said. “The question is whether the audience has a desire about those stories and whether we feel that type of film has become oversaturated or not, or whether there is a new way of making those films. But yeah, I’m not quite sure.”
