Dreams of a white Christmas could come true this year for some Utahns

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? If so, it looks like there’s a chance it could happen for some of Utah.

However, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding this possible Christmas Day storm.

The 2News Weather Team has analyzed the data surrounding this storm. This is how it looks right now.

HIGH TRUST

Our meteorologists are pretty confident that a storm will move through Utah on Christmas Day.

Long-range models have been consistent in bringing a storm system of some sort through the Beehive State just in time for the holidays.

LOW TO MODERATE TRUST

While the data suggests a storm will move through Utah by Christmas, the exact path and strength of the storm is still somewhat unclear.

In addition, the type of precipitation is still quite uncertain. This storm appears to have a fairly mild origin, which could mean some of the precipitation could fall as rain or a rain/snow mix instead of straight snow.

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER

We are still nine days away from this system moving through Utah and a lot can change between now and then.

The atmosphere is very fluid, so when one thing changes, it can create a domino effect that can drastically change a long-term forecast.

It is possible that the size, strength and track of this storm could change in the coming days.

In summary – yes – there is a chance for a white Christmas here in Utah, but the exact details are still unclear.

The 2News Weather Team will continue to monitor new data on this storm and will keep you updated as we approach Christmas.
