BC Weather Forecast: Rain, Snow Warnings Issued

Rainfall and snowfall warnings have been issued by Environment Canada.

Several BC weather warnings have been issued over the next 24 hours as heavy rain, freezing rain and snow are expected.

A rainfall warning was issued by Environment Canada on December 17 at 5 for the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver and the Southern Gulf Islands.

“A moist Pacific frontal system will bring rain to the south coast,” says a meteorologist.

The rain is expected to be heavy at times and will taper off early Wednesday morning.

On the west coast of Vancouver Island, 100 mm of rain is expected. East Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands can expect 50 mm of rain.

A total of 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected in Metro Vancouver, the central Fraser Valley and Howe Sound.

The Fraser Valley will receive two to four centimeters of snow and 40 to 50mm of rain.

“High flows and localized flooding are possible, especially at lower elevations and in areas with poor drainage,” a meteorologist said.
