Viewers of Royal Variety were left confused after Sir Elton John’s segment on the show. The legendary performer appeared on the bill at the Royal Albert Hall for the 2024 edition of the world’s longest running entertainment show.

The Rocketman singer was joined on stage by her husband, David Furnish, as they introduced a performance from his new musical, The Devil Wears Prada. The 77-year-old has composed the music for the new stage show, which is currently being performed at the Dominion Theater in London.

Sir Elton took part in a comedy sketch with main character Miranda Priestly before leaving the stage. Viewers following the show on X took to the social media platform as they expected the iconic musician to perform one of his hits.

Another user said: “If you book Elton John, you want him to sit at a piano and do one of the decent songs.” Sir Elton announced that he has retired from touring but may still perform a one-off show.”

Sir Elton opened up about the heartfelt reason he walked away from acting in a new documentary, Elton John Never Too Late, which arrived on Disney+ on Friday. The singer is the proud father of two sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11.

He explained in the documentary how he hopes to spend more time with his children. He said: “I don’t know how much time I have left. You think about it more when you get to my age, you think about life and death. After this tour I don’t want to do anything. This is when you start thinking on mortality.”

The musician wants to spend as much time as possible with his family as he heartbreakingly admitted that he doesn’t know which stages of their lives he will live to experience. He added: “They love their dad so they want me to be forever. I want to see my kids get married and I don’t think I’m going to be around for that.

“You never know. So that’s why I want to give them the best of my time while I’m around them. Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
