Is Ryan Williams in the transfer window? Latest news on the Alabama star’s status after a stellar freshman season

College football fans have seen the future of the wide receiver position and his name is Ryan Williams.

Williams, who doesn’t turn 18 until February, shined as a true freshman at Alabama, racking up 857 yards and eight touchdowns on 45 catches despite his age and inexperience. That included a 177-yard burst in a win over Georgia that helped put Williams on the national map.

Alabama isn’t used to losing players of Williams’ caliber, even in the era of the transfer portal, but speculation has fans wondering if the young receiver could be on the move ahead of 2025.

Here’s the latest update on Williams’ status amid transfer portal speculation.

Is Ryan Williams in the transfer window?

Williams is not currently on the transfer portal, despite speculation from fans that he could be on the move. No reports suggest he plans to enter the portal.

While the wild world of college football can move quickly, and Alabama fans may not be able to breathe easy until the portal closes for the winter on Dec. 28, the rumors of Williams moving out appear to be just that: rumours.

It may not be the Nick Saban era in Tuscaloosa anymore, but Alabama probably has the resources to keep a player like Williams. The rising sophomore is set to become one of the nation’s top wide receivers in 2025, when he’ll still be just 18, and he and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith already look like first-round NFL Draft picks in 2027.

Fueling the speculation surrounding Williams is the reality that Alabama has lost some talent to the transfer portal. While a highly touted recruiting class will help replace some of that, the Crimson Tide have already seen 15 players enter the portal.

Here’s a closer look at which Alabama players are headed to 2025.

Williams is not in the transfer portal, so who is? More than a dozen players, which is part of the reason many have wondered about Williams’ future.

15 Alabama players have entered the portal since the window opened earlier in December, plus TE Danny Smith, who opted to return to the Tide.
